A stripper knife, also known as a wire stripper knife or cable stripper knife, is a specialised tool used for removing the insulation or sheathing from electrical wires or cables. It is designed to safely and efficiently strip the outer layers of insulation without damaging the wire inside.
The stripper knife typically features a sharp and durable blade made of high-quality materials such as stainless steel. The blade is precisely calibrated to the desired thickness, allowing for precise and clean stripping of the wire insulation.
The knife may have multiple cutting edges or slots, each designed for a specific wire gauge or size. This allows for versatility in stripping different types and sizes of wires or cables.
Using a stripper knife is relatively straightforward. The user simply positions the wire within the appropriate cutting edge or slot, applies gentle pressure, and then pulls the tool along the length of the wire. The blade cuts through the insulation, allowing for easy removal.
The stripper knife is commonly used in electrical and electronic work, telecommunications, data cabling, and other applications where precise wire stripping is required. It is an essential tool for electricians, technicians, and DIY enthusiasts working with electrical wiring.
